Animation Course Overview

Animation is about the creation of a series of graphic images. Each one varying a little compared to the one before which are then filmed in sequence to give the appearance of continous movement. This skill is applied in cartoon and live-action films, computer games, special effects and many other media. Animation is also about good storytelling

What will you study?

You will be trained in fundamental art skills like drawing and perspective. You will learn how to create graphics, animation and special effects for different media, including film, TV, video and computer games. You will be trained to use textures, lighting and other elements to bring your images to life and to use the latest in animation software.

The course will also help you to develop creative thinking abilities, including visual conceptualization and idea generation.

Core subjects

Conceptual design; multimedia design; script writing; film appreciation; animation practice; 3D animation; modelling; film production.

Course duration

An animation degree course usually lasts for at least three years, depending on specialization.

Prerequisites

While there are no specific prequiresite subjects for animation courses, a strong interest in art and design subjects will be advantageous. For computer or 3D animation courses, good grades in mathematics maybe required.

What do graduates do?

You can work as artist, painter, model maker, visualizer, sculptor or technical director in broadcast design, flim, television, videogame devlopment etc.
